Camilla ReyesWhen I first found out I was pregnant with Luna, I thought I needed to rush out and buy a whole new maternity wardrobe right away. Every ad I saw seemed to tell me I needed special jeans, fancy dresses, and expensive matching sets for every stage of my bump.
The truth? I ended up wearing only a handful of pieces on repeat—and they were worth every penny. So if you’re just starting your pregnancy shopping list, here’s what I really needed to feel comfortable and confident while growing Luna.
1. Leggings, Leggings, Leggings
Maternity leggings were my absolute MVPs. Soft, stretchy, and supportive—perfect for lounging at home, running errands, or dressing up with a cute sweater. I had two pairs in black and one in a neutral color, and that was enough.
2. Oversized T-Shirts & Sweaters
I didn’t buy special maternity tops at first—I just sized up in soft basics. A few oversized t-shirts and cozy sweaters kept me comfortable and covered my bump nicely, especially in the first and second trimesters.
3. A Good Pair of Maternity Jeans
When my regular jeans no longer buttoned (hello, Luna’s bump!), one good pair of maternity jeans with a stretchy waistband was a lifesaver. I didn’t need three or four—just one reliable pair that went with everything.
4. A Supportive Bra
One thing I underestimated was how quickly my regular bras became uncomfortable. A couple of soft, wireless maternity bras made a world of difference. I lived in them, day and night.
5. A Dress for Special Moments
I did treat myself to one comfy maternity dress for doctor visits, brunches, and baby bump photos. It made me feel beautiful without feeling squeezed in—one of my favorite pieces that made me proud to show off Luna growing inside me.
The rest? I didn’t need much more. I mixed these basics with cardigans, sneakers, or accessories I already had. It’s proof that you don’t need an entirely new wardrobe—just a few well-chosen pieces that grow with you and Luna.
Soon, I’ll share the exact brands and pieces that worked for me—so you don’t waste time or money on clothes you’ll never wear.
