Camilla ReyesWhen I was pregnant with Luna, I spent so many nights scrolling through endless baby must-have lists. I wanted to be ready for everything — so I added so much to my cart: tiny clothes, fancy gadgets, cute but impractical extras. Some of those things became daily lifesavers. Others? Well… they ended up in a closet collecting dust.
So here’s my honest list of what I bought before Luna arrived — what I truly loved and what I probably wouldn’t buy again. I hope it helps you make your own baby shopping list a little more real and a lot less overwhelming.
🌙 Baby Items I Loved:
☑ Soft Swaddles — I didn’t need ten, but having 3-4 good quality swaddles was a lifesaver for naps, nursing, and car rides.
☑ Sound Machine — I thought it was silly at first, but Luna slept so much better with gentle white noise. It’s still part of our bedtime routine.
☑ Nursing Pillow — In the early weeks, I used this constantly. It made feeding sessions with Luna more comfortable and my arms less sore.
☑ Simple Onesies & Zip Sleepers — I quickly learned that cute outfits were useless when you’re changing diapers at 2 AM. Zip-up sleepers saved my sanity.
☑ Baby Carrier — I loved having Luna close to my chest while having my hands free to do little things around the house.
🌙 Baby Items I Regret:
☑ Too Many Fancy Outfits — Luna grew so fast that half of her “cute” outfits were worn once (or not at all). I wish I’d focused on comfy basics.
☑ Bottle Warmer — I used it twice. A bowl of warm water worked just fine for us.
☑ Wipe Warmer — This felt like a genius idea at 3 AM during late-night nesting — but Luna didn’t mind normal wipes at all.
☑ Fancy Crib Bedding Sets — We never used the decorative bumpers and extras (and they’re not really safe anyway). A good fitted sheet was enough.
☑ Too Many Baby Toys Early On — Newborns don’t really need lots of toys — your face, voice, and a soft blanket are more than enough at the beginning.
I hope this helps you feel less pressured to buy everything — because honestly, you don’t need it all to give your baby a warm, loving start.
Soon, I’ll share my real newborn essentials guide — the practical things that actually made life with Luna easier (and what I’d buy again in a heartbeat).
