Staying Active While Pregnant: What Felt Good for Me
Camilla ReyesBefore I got pregnant with Luna, I imagined I’d be that super active mom-to-be doing daily workouts and prenatal yoga every morning. Reality? It looked a lot different—and that’s okay.
I quickly learned that listening to my body was way more important than following a perfect plan. Some days I felt strong and energetic, and other days I needed to rest, nap, and just focus on growing Luna. Here’s what staying active really looked like for me, and maybe it’ll help you find what feels good for you too.
1. Gentle Walks Outside
My absolute favorite way to stay active was simply walking. Slow, mindful walks in nature helped me clear my mind, connect with Luna, and get fresh air. On days when nausea hit hard, even a 10-minute stroll felt like an accomplishment.
2. Stretching & Prenatal Yoga
When my back started to ache, I turned to gentle prenatal yoga videos online. Simple stretches—especially hip openers and lower back relief—helped me feel more comfortable and sleep better. Sometimes I did just five minutes on the living room floor, and that was enough.
3. Swimming (When I Could!)
In my second trimester, I tried swimming a few times and it was bliss. The weightlessness felt so good on my joints, and floating made me feel calm and connected to Luna in a magical way.
4. Light Strength Exercises
A couple of times a week, I used light weights or resistance bands at home. Simple squats, arm curls, or side leg lifts helped me feel stronger and prepared me for all the carrying and lifting to come with Luna.
5. Rest & Listening to My Body
The biggest lesson? Movement is amazing, but so is rest. On days when I felt exhausted, I didn’t force myself to push through. I reminded myself that growing Luna was already the most important “workout” my body could do.
Soon, I’ll share my favorite gentle workout videos, comfy activewear, and simple tools that made staying active with Luna feel good instead of stressful. If you’d like my full list and cozy tips for moving during pregnancy, subscribe to my newsletter here. 💛
