How I Survived Morning Sickness (and What Didn’t Work)

Camilla Reyes

If there’s one thing I wasn’t fully prepared for when I found out I was pregnant with Luna, it was morning sickness. Whoever named it “morning” sickness clearly never had it all day long! From the moment I opened my eyes to the moment I fell asleep, nausea was a constant part of my first trimester.

I tried everything—some things helped a little, some didn’t help at all, and a few became my lifesavers. So here’s what worked for me, and what didn’t, in case you’re navigating this with your little one growing inside you too.

What did help me most was starting my day slowly. Keeping plain crackers on my nightstand and nibbling them before I even sat up made a surprising difference. Ginger tea was another staple—I sipped it warm throughout the day to settle my stomach.

Small, frequent meals were essential. I quickly learned that an empty stomach made things ten times worse, so I kept healthy snacks in my bag and bedside drawer at all times. Hydration was key too: water sometimes made me feel queasy, so I added a splash of lemon or cucumber, which helped me drink more without feeling sick.

Now, let’s talk about what didn’t work for me. Preggie pops? Cute idea, but they didn’t help much beyond a few seconds of distraction. Sour candies made my nausea worse sometimes, and fancy herbal supplements people raved about online didn’t make a dent either.

One thing I do recommend is talking openly with your doctor about options if your sickness feels unmanageable. I waited too long before asking for advice and realized there were more gentle solutions than I thought.

Soon, I’ll be sharing the actual products and small tricks that helped me survive those long weeks of nausea while growing Luna. If you want to get my full list and tips, don’t forget to subscribe to my newsletter here—I’ll be putting everything I’ve really used (and loved) online bit by bit.

Hang in there, mama—this phase does pass, and you’re stronger than you think. 🌙✨
