Camilla ReyesAs my due date with Luna got closer, I realized that preparing my body for birth was only half the journey—preparing my mind was just as important. Birth felt big, unknown, and honestly, a little scary at times.
I knew I couldn’t control every moment of labor, but I could choose how to support myself mentally and emotionally. Here’s what truly helped me feel more grounded, less fearful, and more ready to meet Luna.
1. Learning, but Not Overloading
At first, I read everything about birth—too much, honestly. I learned to focus on a few trusted books, simple birth class videos, and positive birth stories. It helped me feel informed without spiraling into anxiety.
2. Positive Birth Affirmations
Every morning, I’d say simple affirmations out loud: “My body was made to do this.” “I trust myself and Luna.” “Each wave brings me closer to meeting my baby.” It might sound cheesy, but it gave me strength and calm when fears crept in.
3. Guided Relaxation & Breathing
I found a short guided meditation for birth preparation that I’d listen to before bed. Practicing deep breathing and visualizing Luna’s birth day helped me sleep better and made me feel more connected to her.
4. Talking Through My Fears
I didn’t keep my worries to myself. I talked openly with my partner about what I was scared of and what I needed from him during labor. I also asked my doctor questions—even the ones that felt silly. Sharing my thoughts made them feel lighter.
5. Trusting My Body & Luna
The biggest mindset shift was reminding myself that birth was something Luna and I would do together. It wasn’t just my job—it was ours. This helped me feel less alone and more supported by the tiny person I was about to meet.
I know every birth is different, but I truly believe a calm mind is powerful. Soon, I’ll share the exact tools, birth classes, and meditation tracks that helped me feel ready to welcome Luna into the world.
