From the First Contraction to the First Cry
Camilla ReyesFrom the First Contraction to the First Cry
It all began in the quiet hours of a still night. I remember feeling the very first contraction — that strange mix of excitement and fear washing over me all at once. As the hours passed, the contractions grew stronger and closer together, and I kept asking myself, Am I really ready for this?
The hospital felt surreal — bright lights, busy nurses, the quiet hum of machines. In the middle of it all, I felt an unexpected calm. Then came the moment I had waited for my whole life: the first cry of my daughter. That powerful, tiny sound filled the room — and my heart — all at once. Every ache, every wave of pain suddenly made sense. Luna was here.
Meeting You for the First Time
When they placed Luna on my chest, everything else disappeared. Her tiny, warm body, so fragile and perfect, felt like a miracle pressed against my skin. I couldn’t believe this little human was mine.
Her sleepy eyes met mine for the first time, and in that quiet moment, I felt a love deeper than anything I had ever known. It was terrifying and beautiful all at once — a bond that promised a lifetime of care, worry, and joy.
The First Night Together: Fear, Love, and Tears
That first night was a swirl of emotions I couldn’t have imagined. I was exhausted beyond words, yet I couldn’t close my eyes — afraid to miss a single second. I cried, not only from the physical pain but from the flood of feelings that had no words. Love, fear, awe — all tangled inside me.
My partner stayed by my side through every moment, his quiet strength helping me find my own in this brand-new role I was stepping into.
Naming You: Why We Chose “Luna”
Choosing her name felt special — like giving her the first gift she would carry forever. We wanted a name that felt like light, hope, and calm. Luna, meaning “moon,” was perfect.
Just like the moon lights up the darkest nights, we hoped Luna would always bring light into our lives and guide us through every new chapter.
The First Skin-to-Skin and Bonding Moment
Skin-to-skin was pure magic. Holding her close, feeling her tiny breaths on my chest, I felt connected to her in a way I can’t put into words. Those first hours helped calm her and soothed me too — it was the beginning of our lifelong bond. A quiet promise that we would face whatever came, together.
These raw moments inspired me to write everything down — to hold on to the small details we so easily forget. Stay close — the next article will share how we found our rhythm at home.
